Mother's Day is full of fake goods! US Customs cracks down on imported products!

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials recently seized two batches of counterfeit handbags and tea sets shipped from China and the Philippines at the Port of Cincinnati, involving high-end brands such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Christian Dior, Hermes and Goyard.

According to CBP officials, the counterfeit goods were purchased from third-party sellers on online platforms as Mother's Day gifts and were to be shipped to residents of California and Texas. If genuine, the handbags would have a total value of $166,045 and the tea sets would have been $4,000.

According to reports, the number of counterfeit handbags was 65, and the number of counterfeit tea sets was two, both of which were Hermes tea sets. CBP said that these counterfeit products violated CBP's trademark and copyright regulations because the above-mentioned brands have registered trademarks with CBP.

Richard Gillespie, director of the Cincinnati Port Authority, said that counterfeit goods have a negative impact on the U.S. economy, and the fraudsters' use of counterfeit goods to make huge profits is hateful, so CBP officials will strictly monitor imported and exported goods. At the same time, they also reminded consumers to buy "Mother's Day" gifts from legitimate retailers to avoid being deceived by illegal elements.

In addition to counterfeit handbags and tea sets, other counterfeit goods seized at the Port of Cincinnati in April included:

  • Cartier bracelet, total value $47,000
  • Christian Dior sandals, valued at $13,870
  • 20 counterfeit luxury handbags and purses, with a total value of $41,875
  • 190 Oakley sunglasses, valued at $29,000.

It is reported that in fiscal year 2021, the Cincinnati Customs Office seized a total of 2,060 counterfeit goods with a total value of more than 146 million US dollars, including handbags, wallets, clothing, shoes, watches, jewelry and consumer electronics, etc., and these counterfeit goods were sold on shopping websites and second-hand markets.
