Etsy launches a new purchase protection program to protect buyers and sellers!

It is learned that Etsy recently announced that starting from August 1, 2022, it will launch a new purchase protection plan for goods worth less than US$250 (including shipping and taxes) to protect both buyers and sellers.

For buyers, starting August 1, 2022, Etsy will offer them a full refund if they receive an item that "is not as described, arrives damaged, or never arrives."

For sellers, they will also be fully compensated if the item is lost during shipping or damaged during shipping. However, the seller must be in good standing with Etsy (not violating any policies), and the item must meet the following criteria:

  • Have valid tracking information or use a shipping label purchased on Etsy
  • An estimated delivery date is shown on the item details page.
  • On-time shipment within the processing time specified by the seller
  • Items are carefully packaged for shipping
  • Use accurate photos and descriptions in your listings

We understand that other express delivery services such as USPS Priority Mail, UPS Ground, and FedEx Ground provide shipping insurance to shippers. In this case, Etsy will prioritize the courier company's insurance, and the new purchase protection plan will not cover the relevant orders.

Etsy also defended the price increase, saying: "We're investing the extra money back into the business, not into increasing profits. We're investing $25 million into a new purchase protection program and $50 million into improving the customer buying experience. We're committing to using this money to expand our team, improve live chat support and reduce response times."
