It is learned that according to a survey by U.S. News & World Report, affected by the continued rise in prices, American consumers now prioritize searching for coupons when shopping online.
U.S. News & World Report surveyed 2,000 American adult consumers and found that 76% of consumers search for coupons when making purchases, of which 58% look for coupons at least once a week and 25% look for coupons at least once a month.
Another survey report from digital intelligence technology provider FullStory shows that in 2022, 64% of American consumers have reduced their purchasing behavior, and 51% of consumers will conduct more careful online research before purchasing. This means that consumers will be more cost-conscious when shopping online.
The survey shows that 51% of consumers look for coupons on social media platforms or blogs. Specifically, 26% of consumers look on Facebook, 15% on Instagram, and 12% on TikTok. Another 30% of consumers look for them on podcasts.
It is reported that the types of coupons that American consumers look for on these platforms include promotional codes (67%), buy one get one free (58%), free shipping coupons (54%) and cash back offers (40%).
Social media isn’t the only place Americans look for coupons when shopping online. The survey also noted that nearly half of U.S. consumers (44%) said they regularly use money-saving coupon sites like Groupon, apps like Ibotta, and browser extensions like Honey.
U.S. News & World Report also surveyed American consumers about their shopping plans for this peak season. Among them, 72% of consumers plan to spend less than $500 on gifts, and 52% plan to spend the same amount as last year. On the other hand, 51% of consumers plan to use online coupon sites, applications or browser extensions to complete holiday shopping, and 24% of consumers said they might do so.
