Walmart plans to add 40 in-store delivery stations to cope with peak season

Walmart announced plans on November 21 to add more than 40 parcel delivery stations in stores by the end of the year, many of which will be put into operation during the holiday season. Walmart also said it plans to open parcel delivery stations in more stores next year.

According to Walmart, the goods will start from Walmart distribution centers, be sorted through sorting centers or transported directly to stores, and then be transported to consumers by Walmart's exclusive freight fleet through Walmart's last-mile delivery network.

By improving the delivery process, Walmart is able to increase delivery density and reduce delivery costs, thereby reinvesting the saved funds in enhancing the customer experience. Walmart also plans to support other businesses through Walmart Go Local. In fact, Walmart’s latest third-quarter financial report also shows that in-store pickup and delivery have driven its e-commerce sales to grow 24% year-on-year.

According to Adobe Analytics, online shopping spending in the United States is expected to reach $37.2 billion during the peak shopping season, including Thanksgiving, Black Friday on November 24, and Cyber Monday on November 27. With the addition of emerging platforms such as Temu and TikTok Shop, Walmart will face more intense competition, and logistics is one of the key competitive factors.

Meanwhile, major retailers are cautious about U.S. consumers' holiday shopping spending this year, with Walmart, Amazon and Target all warning that many consumers may wait until they really need to shop.
