It is learned that on March 21, according to foreign media reports, Walmart Canada plans to introduce automation technology into its distribution network, and the regional distribution center (RDC) in Calgary, Alberta will take the lead in piloting a new automated receiving solution. It is understood that the technologies used in this pilot include automatic mobile robots (AMRs), which can move quickly and transport received pallets of goods to the processing station, then depalletize the pallets and transfer the goods to the conveyor belt. Walmart said that compared with manual operation, automation technology can increase the speed of cargo loading and unloading by 90%, which will help regional distribution centers improve operating efficiency, improve transportation accuracy, reduce labor pressure and enhance data analysis capabilities. Walmart Canada currently has 16 distribution centers and nearly 7,000 employees, which can deliver products to 400 stores across the country and provide two-day delivery services to 97% of Canadian households. After the pilot is completed, Walmart will promote the automated receiving solution throughout its entire distribution network in Canada and gradually launch new technologies.
