Reversal! USPS resumes accepting packages from China

It is learned that on February 5, local time, the United States Postal Service (USPS) announced that it would resume accepting inbound packages from mainland China and Hong Kong.

Previously, the U.S. Postal Service announced on February 4 that it would suspend the acceptance of inbound packages from mainland China and Hong Kong until further notice. However, this decision only lasted for one day, and the U.S. Postal Service quickly resumed the acceptance service of the relevant packages.

This "change of policy overnight" decision did not have a substantial impact on the business of Chinese cross-border e-commerce platforms such as Temu and Shein in the United States. These platforms previously relied on the low-cost delivery service of the U.S. Postal Service to deliver millions of items to the U.S. market every week.

Some analysts believe that the decision to resume accepting inbound packages from mainland China and Hong Kong may be related to the communication between the U.S. Postal Service and Customs and Border Protection on the implementation details of the new tariff policy.

In its announcement on resuming the acceptance of packages, the U.S. Postal Service said it would work closely with the Customs and Border Protection Agency to implement an effective transportation mechanism for China's new tariff policy to ensure that the impact on package delivery is minimized. Therefore, although the U.S. Postal Service has resumed the acceptance of packages, the transportation and customs clearance process of packages in the future may change due to the new tariff policy.
