Sellers destroy goods directly?! Amazon is exposed to scandal

We just reported yesterday that after USPS lost the shipments of Amazon sellers and even Amazon itself, it auctioned them off on its own website (click here for details)

Amazon is also a victim in this matter, as FBA must compensate sellers for lost items. However, in another incident recently exposed by the media, Amazon is the villain who exploits sellers.

According to the British Daily Mail, Amazon actually shipped millions of pounds worth of well-packaged goods directly to landfills or incineration!

In the video shot by the reporter during the undercover investigation, a large number of brand new goods were piled up randomly in the "destruction area". Trucks and other means of transportation would transport these goods to garbage disposal centers and landfills.

▲Staff piled the products to be destroyed in the destruction area

In an interview with the reporter, Amazon staff said that every year Amazon warehouses in the UK destroy approximately 3 million pounds worth of unsaleable new goods.

"Only a very small number of sellers will choose to return their slow-moving inventory, and most of the products will still be destroyed."

This is completely opposite to the answer given by Amazon when the media publicly asked Amazon about the whereabouts of unsold inventory.

An Amazon spokesperson said that the unsaleable inventory would be provided to a number of charities, including In Kind Direct. When the media asked whether it would destroy the unused goods, Amazon chose to refuse to answer.

Why would sellers choose to destroy goods rather than ship them back? This is where the Daily Mail criticized the most in the article, and as sellers, we all know why.

The storage cost of unsaleable goods is too high. Amazon's long-term storage fees are several times higher than normal storage fees. The cost of shipping them back to China is also a huge amount.

Since they can neither continue to sell them nor get their inventory back, sellers choose to dispose of them quickly and cheaply. It is really a helpless move for Amazon to deal with these new slow-moving products directly.

But the problem is, even if sellers choose to abandon unsaleable inventory and use the disposal service to let Amazon handle it, Amazon can also choose to deliver the inventory to charities.

Let them maximize the use of these goods instead of simply disposing of them as garbage. Doing so can only save Amazon processing time and costs, but the impact on the environment and society is indeed very bad.

After the incident was exposed, British netizens also expressed their anger and condemned Amazon's behavior.

This is called capitalism. In order to maintain high profits, prices must remain high enough.

Destroying things is horrible, but when he sells it to charity and gets something out of it, it's even more disgusting.

Amazon’s long-term storage fee policy has indeed always been a policy that sellers have complained about, and this year Amazon has also made a lot of adjustments to its long-term storage fees.

For example, the criteria for long-term storage have been extended from half a year of unsaleable goods to one year of unsaleable goods. At the same time, the overall long-term storage fees have been lowered.

These updated policies have now been implemented on the US site, and corresponding policies on the European site will soon be implemented.

Although the reduction in fees is indeed good news, as a seller, you should try to avoid such fees if you can. There will be no long-term storage fees if there are no unsold products. If there are unsaleable products, you can also try to sell them with big discounts and off-site activities.

I have prepared a collection of off-site deals for everyone. Sellers who need it can directly scan the code and contact me to claim it~
