Amazon is targeted by the US FTC! Antitrust investigation is about to be accelerated

Recently, the US FTC sent antitrust professor and former Justice Department prosecutor John Newman to take over the Amazon antitrust case . After taking office, Newman directly reorganized the Amazon investigation team and threatened to speed up the investigation of Amazon!

I have previously tracked the antitrust investigation into Amazon in detail. The investigation began in June 2019, and the first investigation report was released in October 2020. For the specific content of the report, you can check our tweets at the time.

"Amazon is really going to be split up! The results of the US antitrust investigation are announced"

Let me briefly explain here. The investigation report mainly points to three violations by Amazon. The first is that it has formed a de facto monopoly position in the US online retail market. Second, it uses its monopoly position to engage in asymmetric competition with surrounding industries and third-party sellers. Third, it squeezes out third-party sellers on the platform with unfair policies and treatment.

At the time, the investigation report caused a stir in the media and Amazon sellers. Many sellers felt that the antitrust investigation team really hit the nail on the head, and they were waiting for the team’s next approach and how to improve Amazon’s monopoly situation. As a result, they waited for more than a year. After the investigation report was released, there was no major news about the antitrust investigation team.

After Newman took office and reorganized the investigation team, he said that the original investigation team had not come up with anything new since the release of the investigation report until last summer, and the overall investigation progress remained within the scope of the investigation report. Therefore, Newman began to reorganize the investigation team after taking office in December, in order to complete the antitrust investigation of Amazon with faster and tougher means . Now the investigation team has been reorganized recently and started a new round of investigation.

The FTC is determined to win the antitrust case against Amazon. The United States has been printing money since 2020, causing the inflation rate in the United States to soar this year. Printing money itself should increase the overall price and wage level in the United States. However, the printed money did not flow into the market and society as expected, injecting economic vitality into the entire society. Instead, it concentrated on technology giants, making their market value higher and higher, and exerting a huge siphon effect on the entire market. No matter how much money is printed, it will always be eaten up by the top companies. Amazon is the "head bird" among them. Everyone should still remember that just last year Amazon set a global market value record and was one of the direct beneficiaries of the United States' massive money printing.

But in the final analysis, the purpose of the US government's money distribution is not to let Amazon eat itself, but to stimulate social and economic activities and allow more small and medium-sized enterprises and consumers to consume and live. The money will go in the opposite direction when it reaches Amazon, so the business of the giant must not be monopolized. Without competition, Amazon will eat up the entire market. Therefore, the US government is very determined to conduct an antitrust investigation on Amazon this time, which is a major event related to the entire US economy.

So you can see that in the past two months, as soon as the Federal Reserve announced that it would stop printing money and tighten its policy, Amazon's stock price plummeted. Tightening policies and printing money, and launching antitrust investigations, it can be seen that the US government has begun to suppress giant technology companies such as Amazon in many ways.

Yesterday, everyone just finished complaining about Amazon's arbitrary price increases, including raising FBA remote delivery fees two or three times a year, with each increase getting bigger and bigger . Today, it is facing countermeasures. I hope the US government and the antitrust team will give Amazon a good beating and let it know the importance of treating third-party sellers well!

Regarding the follow-up news of the antitrust investigation, I will still release it in the group as soon as possible. If anyone wants to discuss the progress of the antitrust investigation and the multi-platform layout, please scan the QR code and privately message me to join the group!
