Breaking news! Amazon has conducted a large-scale account scan, and hundreds of accounts have been deactivated!

It is learned that on March 20, Amazon North America’s first large-scale promotional event in spring has officially kicked off.

According to Bank of America, this promotion may bring Amazon $1 billion to $2 billion in revenue. Because it has certain growth potential, some sellers also pin their hopes on this promotion to test new products and accumulate traffic.

However, contrary to expectations, with the implementation of Amazon's law that "there are many variables during peak seasons", many sellers have experienced the unexpected situation of "dying before fulfilling their ambitions".

According to industry sources, Amazon also launched a large-scale number scanning campaign at the same time as the North American spring promotion campaign began.

On the afternoon of March 20, a large number of sellers received emails from Amazon to scan their accounts. Amazon pointed out in the email that these seller accounts had taken unfair actions or abused Amazon functions , violating Amazon's policies and were therefore deactivated.

According to Amazon's backend content, the so-called unfair practices mainly include:
  • Providing misleading or inappropriate information to buyers;

  • Manipulate sales rankings or make claims about sales rankings in product titles or descriptions;

  • Attempting to increase the price of a product after an order has been confirmed;

  • Artificially increase web traffic (for example, by using robots or paying for clicks);

  • Trying to boost search rankings by manipulating keywords or influencing buyers’ search behavior through incentives;

  • Allowing others to act in a manner that violates Amazon policies or violates your agreement with Amazon.

After investigation by the sellers, the accounts that have been scanned cover a wide range , including stores that have not been in operation for a long time, newly registered stores, and old stores that are operating normally . The possible violations include gray operations such as finding service providers to catch up with sales, brand abuse, variant violations in the account, and infringements, etc., which makes people think of the turbulent months in the circle in 2021.

But it is worth mentioning that AMZ13 learned that many sellers reported that many of the accounts that were swept were pure white hat operations without any illegal operations:
"We have three accounts that have received it. They are all old accounts that have not violated any regulations. We don't know what's going on."
"I was swept up in two stores. It is said that there are already 100 victims. The goods I just sent out..."
"There was no fake ordering, and none of the unfair practices mentioned by Amazon were shut down. I have no clue."

Based on this, some sellers speculated that the large-scale scanning of accounts this time might be a mistake by Amazon, and they need to "let the bullet fly for a while." However, some sellers believe that the scanning of accounts this time is basically due to the high risk of internal rating of the account . During the spring promotion, the large-scale scanning of accounts is likely to be Amazon's further tightening of account review.

In addition, although Amazon stated in the email that if the seller believes that the account was mistakenly deactivated, they can submit an "explanation" to reactivate the account, most sellers currently still have no idea of the specific reasons why their account was deactivated, and the page only displays a box when filing an appeal.

A seller said that such appeals with only one box on the page are often difficult to pass, which means that the account being scanned is almost equivalent to being cleared. The news caused panic in the industry for a while.

As of press time, Amazon has not responded to the above questions. We will continue to pay attention to the follow-up situation so as to inform sellers in a timely manner. If you have the latest news related to this, you can also share it in the comment section.

It is worth noting that in addition to the above-mentioned wave of number sweeps, Amazon seems to have also launched a large-scale sweep of the vacuum cleaner category.

It is learned that recently, according to the information revealed by the seller, a large number of products in the "Stick Vacuums & Electric Brooms" category on Amazon's US site were shown as unsaleable.

From the leaked screenshots, it can be seen that at that time, on the BS list of this category, only less than half of the products were still being displayed for sale normally.

According to the seller who broke the news, in this wave of sweeping the vacuum cleaner and floor scrubber categories, most of the links that turned into dogs were Chinese brands , while there were almost no problems with American brands. Therefore, it is speculated that Amazon conducted a category review of Chinese brands.

However, some sellers also said that some sellers in this category have average product quality and often engage in gray operations such as illegally merging variants, merging international reviews, manipulating reviews, and placing orders outside the site. This time, it is possible that their accounts were blocked because they were found to have engaged in illegal operations.

As of press time, Amazon has not responded to this, and the specific reasons why the categories were swept are still unknown , so the above speculations can only be used as a reference.

Fortunately, we learned that the links on the BS list of the "Stick Vacuums & Electric Brooms" category on Amazon US have been restored to normal display. Judging from the feedback from sellers, most sellers were not affected by this category sweep.

However, considering that Amazon frequently changes its rules and tightens account reviews, we would like to remind all sellers to pay more attention to the compliance within their accounts to avoid affecting sales in the recent spring promotion.

I wonder how the sellers are doing in the spring promotion? Welcome to discuss in the comments section~
