AWOK was founded in April 2013 by Ulugbek Yuldashev, who initially focused on selling electronic products and gradually transformed into the current flash sales model. AWOK's parent company ALIFCA DMCC is also a retail company.



About AWOK


AWOK started in the 3C category and currently has business in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. It is positioned as an affordable e-commerce company, with its target customer groups being migrant workers and housewives who value cost-effectiveness. It offers 300,000 products including affordable fashion + accessories, kitchenware, electronics and beauty, with its main source of goods being China.


Founder Introduction


AWOK founder Ulugbek Yuldashev is a Kyrgyz. Before coming to Dubai, he owned a wholesale and retail company in Kyrgyzstan. In 2006, he came to Dubai and has been working in the retail industry. In 2013, Ulugbek Yuldashev founded the company with his life savings of $30,000 and only three employees.


Basic Situation


Awok.com mainly sells affordable products in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, targeting middle and low-income people. Today, the platform offers more than 70,000 products covering more than 30 categories and has its own logistics distribution center.

VISA, MasterCard, cash on delivery is supported.


Financing


In April 2019, Awok.com announced the completion of its first round of external financing since its inception. The $30 million Series A financing was jointly led by Middle Eastern investment company StonePine ACE Partners (a joint venture between StonePine CAPItal Partners and ACE & Company SA) and Al-Faisaliah Ventures, the latter of which is the newly established CVC venture capital institution of Saudi Arabian enterprise Al Faisaliah. In addition, investment company Endeavor Catalyst also participated in this round of financing. This financing will help strengthen Awok's team, including attracting global talents, providing customer experience levels and after-sales support.
