SSCC (Serial Shipping Container Code) is a code that provides a unique identification for logistics units (transportation and/or storage) and is globally unique. SSCC is represented by the EAN·UCC system 128 barcode symbol (abbreviated as UCC/EAN-128 barcode symbol), which is jointly designed by the International Article Numbering Association and the United States Uniform Code Council. It is a continuous, non-fixed-length, meaningful, high-density, high-reliability, verifiable code system.

SSCC coding structure

The logistics unit identification code consists of four parts: extension bit, manufacturer identification code, serial number and check code. It is an 18-digit digital code. It is represented by UCC/EAN-128 barcode symbols. The coding structure is as follows:

① Application identifier: 00 indicates the serial freight packaging box code; ② Extension digit: indicates the packaging type, used to increase the capacity of SSCC, and is assigned by the manufacturer who establishes SSCC. If manufacturers want to distinguish different production plants (or production workshops) in SSCC data, they can do so by assigning each production plant (or production workshop) an SSCC segment. SSCC is published in shipping notices, delivery notices, and transport messages.

SSCC is the only mandatory element for all EAN·UCC logistics labels. If other information needs to be added, it should comply with the relevant provisions of the "EAN·UCC General Specifications".
