U.S. ports continue to be congested! 40 ships are waiting to dock at the Port of Los Angeles!

It is learned that according to the global port tracking report released by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and Hackett Associates, there are still 40 ships waiting to dock at the Port of Los Angeles, and it is expected that US ports will continue to be congested in the first half of 2022.

Jonathan Gold, NRF vice president of supply chain and customs policy, said import volumes at U.S. ports have increased more at the beginning of this year than at the same time last year due to continued strong consumer purchasing demand.

NRF expects that US ports will handle 13 million TEUs in the first half of 2022, a year-on-year increase of 1.5%, a slowdown from 12.8 million TEUs in the same period last year. Among them, 2.15 million TEUs are expected to be handled in January (a year-on-year increase of 4.4%), 2.04 million TEUs are expected to be handled in February (+8.7%), 2.12 million TEUs in March (-6.7%), 2.19 million TEUs in April (+2%), 2.27 million TEUs in May (-2.6%), and 2.26 million TEUs in June (+5.2%).

Jonathan Gold added that due to the holidays in many Asian countries in February, the import volume of US ports will decline temporarily in March, but it is expected to resume growth soon. It is worth noting that the port is also facing the problem of insufficient cargo loading space because many goods cannot be delivered to various distribution centers in time.
