FedEx is trialing electric vehicle delivery service! Plans to expand to 10 cities in North America!

It is learned that according to foreign media reports, FedEx is piloting an electric vehicle delivery service in the United States and Canada, and plans to expand the service to 10 cities in North America in 2022.

FedEx is reportedly using the EP1 electric vehicle made by car company BrightDrop for testing. The company found that couriers in EP1 electric vehicles delivered about 15% more packages per day in New York and Toronto. FedEx is very satisfied with the initial results of this pilot program.

FedEx said it expects electric vehicles to reduce the use of trucks on delivery routes by 25%. In addition, it will promote the service through its system of mobile hubs, which will be equipped with trucks and electric vehicles to deliver goods to consumers as quickly as possible.

It is learned that with the continuous development of e-commerce, the availability of parking spaces and loading and unloading areas in metropolitan areas is becoming an important issue, and many delivery vehicles are competing for the few parking spaces. In addition, cities like New York are planning to prioritize loading areas for "green vehicles", which is expected to be launched in the first half of 2022.

In addition, some cities in North America are implementing road restrictions or charging congestion fees to try to reduce trucks or traffic in highly dense areas. All of this will affect the costs and efficiency of logistics companies such as FedEx. As city planners pay more attention to environmental protection, future access, loading areas and parking options will become more limited for gasoline and diesel-powered delivery vehicles.

FedEx General Manager Russ Musgrove said the need for "green vehicles" has forced FedEx to look at creative solutions to a changing environment, which means that express delivery companies must make further efforts to increase the speed of online shopping deliveries while managing more people and business.
