Klaviyo, an e-commerce marketing automation platform, has received a $100 million strategic investment from Shopify, according to documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. This coincides with the announcement that Klaviyo and Shopify are strengthening their existing partnership, making Klaviyo the recommended email product for Shopify's premium merchant plan, Shopify Plus, while allowing Klaviyo to access early features in development at Shopify. The investment in Klaviyo is the latest in a series of investments and acquisitions by Shopify aimed at expanding its influence. In May, Shopify acquired shipping logistics startup Deliverr for $2.1 billion - the company's largest acquisition in history, aiming to launch an "end-to-end" logistics platform for sellers. Just this week, Shopify also invested in Single, a music and video app used by many sellers on the platform. Founded in 2012, Boston-based Klaviyo integrates with existing platforms Octane AI and Recharge, and its main business is to automatically send emails and text messages to customers. By using Klaviyo, sellers can use various predictive analysis tools and models to set messages about abandoned shopping carts, product recommendations, etc. Klaviyo, which has more than 1,000 employees, has raised about $775 million to date.
