Walmart has recently expanded its partnership with Affirm, a "buy now, pay later" company, according to foreign media reports. Through this partnership, users who use Affirm to pay in Walmart stores or on its website and spend more than $300 in a single transaction during August will receive a 90-day free Walmart+ membership from Walmart. The Walmart+ membership plan provides members with unlimited free delivery, fuel discounts, and no-line checkout, etc., and costs $12.95 per month, or $98 per year. According to reports, Walmart's move is to allow users to experience the benefits of the Walmart+ membership service and further attract more people to subscribe. Walmart began allowing users to use the BNPL payment option provided by Affirm when shopping on its website and 4,000 stores across the United States in February 2019. Since then, Affirm's "buy now, pay later" service has gradually replaced Walmart's "installment payment" option. Users using Affirm can choose a payment plan ranging from 3 months to 24 months after purchase according to their needs. Affirm spokesperson Pat Suh said that Affirm has accounted for an increasing share of Walmart transactions since it first established a partnership with Walmart in 2019. The cooperation between Affirm and Walmart will help users spend less money on purchases during the upcoming back-to-school and holiday seasons. It is learned that in order to attract more people to subscribe to Walmart+, Walmart has been increasing the benefits of member users. In the past year, Walmart has held multiple promotional activities for member users. In March 2022, Walmart also announced that it would provide the service free of charge to employees in stores, distribution centers, and sorting centers, increasing the total number of Walmart+ members by nearly 1.6 million. Previously, Walmart also announced a partnership with music streaming platform Spotify to offer special promotions for Walmart+ members. In recent months, Walmart has also added additional benefits for new members, including six months of Spotify premium membership. Walmart is currently planning to launch a streaming service for its membership users, and has talked with major media companies such as Paramount, Disney and Comcast, but it is not clear which company will reach an agreement with Walmart.
