Walmart's delivery capabilities continue to improve, and multiple delivery milestones will be achieved in 2022!

Walmart has been expanding its delivery business to compete with Amazon, according to foreign media reports. Recently, Walmart announced some metrics for its delivery activities in fiscal year 2023 (ending January 31, 2023). The delivery milestones achieved by the retail giant in the past 12 months include:

  • Walmart filled 3,165 shipping container miles in fiscal 2023, enough to stretch from Los Angeles to Bangor, Maine.

  • Walmart made 248 million last-mile deliveries from 3,990 stores that offer delivery.

  • Spark Delivery is Walmart's largest delivery service provider in the United States. Through the platform, Walmart's delivery service covers 84% of American households and 15,000 pickup points. In fiscal 2023, the number of drivers on the platform increased threefold.

  • Based solely on return-haul revenue (freight hauled when returning from deliveries), Walmart will rank among the top 40 trucking companies this fiscal year.

  • In fiscal year 2023, drivers delivering for Walmart drove more than 1 billion miles, the equivalent of 40,000 times around the world, and 37 drivers drove more than 3 million miles each.

Walmart also released specific data about its "Walmart GoLocal" delivery service. Walmart GoLocal competes with companies such as Instacart and DoorDash to deliver goods to customers of other businesses. Currently, well-known retailers that use the service for delivery include Home Depot, Lowes, Chico's and Kelly-Moore Paints.

Highlights for Walmart GoLoca during the fiscal year include:

  • Walmart GoLoca offers delivery service at 10,000 retail locations.

  • The platform completed more than 3.5 million deliveries in fiscal year 2023.

  • 9 out of 10 retailers highly recommend Walmart GoLoca.

“Last year was an incredible year for Walmart Delivery, and I’m so proud of the team for achieving these milestones,” said Jennifer McKeehan, senior vice president of end-to-end delivery at Walmart. “From our private fleet to the Spark Driver Platform to Walmart GoLocal, we remain focused on executing safe and efficient deliveries so that customers can continue to receive the items they want and need most from Walmart and Walmart GoLocal customers.”
