Recently, foreign media revealed that Amazon has been systematically underpaying some workers on vacation, just like it miscalculated seller commissions and resulted in over-deductions. The incident happened a year ago when a former Amazon warehouse employee found out that she was only paid $450 of the $540 she was supposed to receive while on vacation, which was a shortfall of $90. She, who also works as an accountant, directly posted evidence and complained to her brother-in-law and Amazon officials. This incident triggered a confidential investigation within Amazon, which was only recently intercepted by the media. The documents showed that for at least a year and a half, including last year when Amazon achieved amazing profits and market value, Amazon has been withholding the vacation wages of employees who took reasonable vacations. Including the warehouse of the whistleblower, as many as 179 other FBA warehouses of Amazon have been affected by this, and these problems have lasted for at least a year and a half. According to the investigation report, this is because Amazon's internal attendance software mistakenly marked employees who were on legitimate leave as absent. Many people were even judged as long-term absentees by the software and were fired. Many people did not speak out for fear of retaliation. Few people exposed the matter, and the entire leave system ran on a bunch of programs that were usually unrelated to each other, which meant that the matter went undetected for a long time. This is very similar to the last time when the seller’s commission was calculated incorrectly based on the original price before discount. Both times there was a bug in the system but few people discovered it until it was discovered and the impact was huge. Now Amazon has returned the withheld wages to the workers, but Amazon has not yet officially responded to the commission bug. This kind of internal investigation that involves too many things may take a long time.
