What is the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC)? International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC) Review

The International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC) is the world's largest non-profit anti-counterfeiting organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., dedicated to combating counterfeit products and piracy.

The International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC) was spontaneously established in 1978 by 15 well-known manufacturers in the world. At present, there are more than 220 companies and associations from 32 countries and regions participating in the alliance. The alliance is a non-profit civil organization. Its purpose is to urge government officials and educate consumers to recognize the consequences of counterfeiting activities on personal safety and economy, and to oppose various counterfeiting activities such as counterfeit goods, counterfeit trademarks, counterfeit origin marks, etc. The alliance meets once every six months to exchange information, discuss legislative progress, investigation technology, litigation strategy, anti-counterfeiting measures and international anti-counterfeiting plans. The alliance publishes six issues of the "International Anti-Counterfeiting Alliance Bulletin" every year to provide alliance members and government officials of various countries with information on international anti-counterfeiting activities. The alliance also sends inspection teams to certain countries that are considered to be the main sources of counterfeit goods to regularly investigate the situation in the country and freely exchange ideas with trade representatives, government officials and consumers on the methods to solve the problem of counterfeiting activities.

The members of the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition include internationally renowned brands in various fields, and cooperate with global government agencies and industry partners to strengthen intellectual property protection through laws, regulations, government, public education, etc. On April 13, 2016, Alibaba Group officially announced its joining of the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC), becoming the first e-commerce member of the international organization.

Nils Montan, President of the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition, said in a speech titled "Challenges Facing Trademark Protection" that trademark protection is very important for all countries and brand owners. In order to benefit from trademark protection, each country should strive to successfully implement trademark protection laws. The protection measures for trademark rights in the protection law should include: preventing the manufacture, distribution and retail of counterfeit and infringing products; maintaining relevant mechanisms and ensuring that there are no counterfeits in the market.
