It is learned that April 30 is Children's Day in Mexico, and toys will be the focus of the Children's Day promotion. In the Mexican e-commerce market, how much consumption potential does the toy category have on Children's Day? What categories and trends are worth paying attention to? Toys are still the most popular gift on Children's Day this year
According to research by Mexican Chamber of Commerce Concanaco-Servytur, the most searched products online for Children's Day this year included candy, toys, board games, consoles and video games, and various technological products such as tablets and mobile phones.
The study found that although technology products are becoming increasingly popular, toys are still the most popular Children's Day gifts.
According to sales data from previous years, toys have always been the most popular online shopping category on Children's Day in Mexico. Last year, 52% of Mexicans planned to buy toys online on Children's Day. The Mexican Toy Industry Association revealed that toy products have generated $2.3 billion in sales and $500 million in investment in Mexico. In addition to Children's Day, Mexico's toy e-commerce market is also leading the world. In 2022, 75% of toy sales growth in the 12 global markets tracked by NPD came from Brazil and Mexico.
The Mexican toys, hobbies and DIY e-commerce market is expected to reach US$5,473.7 million by 2023, accounting for 13.0% of the total Mexican e-commerce market. The expected compound annual growth rate in the next four years will be 10.1%, and the market size is expected to reach US$8,055.2 million by 2027.
E-commerce platforms are the main purchasing and discovery channels
According to the Mexican Online Sales Association (AMVO), the proportion of e-commerce shopping on Children's Day continues to rise, especially in the categories of toys and video games, where the share of e-commerce sales has increased nearly 10 times. In addition, e-commerce platforms are becoming an important channel for searching and shopping for toys on Children's Day.
In Mexico, marketplaces have considerable influence in e-commerce shopping, not only as the main purchasing channel, but also as an important product discovery channel. Data shows that 57% of Mexicans between the ages of 18 and 65 shop online, almost all of whom shop on marketplaces, and most of whom have children.
In terms of specific platforms, according to the latest data from TandemUp, MercadoLibre (80%) and Amazon (75%) have the highest penetration rates, followed by Walmart (50%), Liverpool (50%) and Coppel (36%). In addition, marketplaces are also the product discovery channel that Mexicans are most interested in, with Amazon and MercadoLibre taking the first place, followed by Walmart, AliExpress and Linio. . Another trend worth noting is that Mexico is also a major mobile e-commerce country, and most people buy through shopping apps. Therefore, cross-border sellers participating in the Children's Day promotion cannot ignore the layout of the mobile terminal.
