The United States released the 2022 "Notorious Market" list! Many Chinese companies were named

It is learned that on January 31, the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced the 2022 "Notorious Markets" list on its official website. Many e-commerce platforms from China, including WeChat, AliExpress, Shopee and Taobao, were on the list. WeChat was identified as one of the largest counterfeit goods platforms in China.

In its latest report on notorious markets, USTR said China leads the global market for counterfeit goods, with counterfeit and pirated goods from China, together with goods transshipped from China to Hong Kong, accounting for 75% of the value of counterfeit and pirated goods seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in 2021.

The U.S. government has reportedly identified 39 online marketplaces and 33 physical marketplaces that engage in or facilitate large-scale trademark counterfeiting or copyright piracy. Chinese e-commerce platforms such as AliExpress, DHgate, Pinduoduo and Taobao have once again made the list of notorious markets, and seven physical marketplaces in China have also been included in the list.

Notably, the report identified WeChat as one of the largest platforms for counterfeit goods in China. The report stated that WeChat has more than 1 billion active users and provides an e-commerce ecosystem that facilitates the distribution and sale of counterfeit products to users across the WeChat platform.

The U.S. government added e-commerce websites operated by Tencent and Chinese technology giant Alibaba Group to its list of notorious markets in early 2022. The Chinese government said at the time that it disagreed with the U.S. government's decision to put some e-commerce websites on the list, calling the move "irresponsible."

Tencent also expressed strong opposition to the decision at the time, and Alibaba has said it will continue to work with government agencies to address concerns about intellectual property protection on its platform.
